What is hosting?
If you have a domain name
and a web site you have to have somewhere to put it. That
means a suitable computer, namely a server that can mange
multiple access requests from those wishing to view your
site. You can of course install your own server and connect
it through your own work broadband connection but these
connections are not necessarily the most reliable and
generally have limited speed and bandwidth. As people
will be requesting files from your site the upload speed
is the critical one. This is the opposite to your normal
use and most standard broadband connections have limited,
often very limited, upload speeds meaning your web site
will load very very slowly for those wanting to view it.
Your server will also need reliable power protection,
to be on 24/7 and have professional firewall and anti
virus systems installed and fully up-to-date.
The alternative, and the norm, is to host
your domain, and therefore your site, on a dedicated server,
designed and built for the purpose, The server should
be located in a data centre that has plenty of bandwidth
capacity and nearly, if not, 100% uptime. This is what

Our hosting is on Windows servers located
in a leading data centre. We have significant levels of
bandwidth available with fall back connections in case
of failure. All servers are fitted with backup power sources
and the data centre itself has both generators and 2 independent
power supplies. Security is also important and strict
physical and virtual access criteria ensure your data

Our servers can host standard web sites
as well as providing the necessary services for our e-commerce
solution, Actinic, which requires both Perl and CGI. We
also support MY SQL and have database backup facilities
if required. Email handling is managed on Linux servers,
located in the same data centre, and configured with latest
anti-spam, anti-virus and we have significant levels of
redundancy ensuring a quality and reliable service.
Our hosting packages include support via
our online
system, email and
telephone. We do not use premium
rate numbers or other hidden ways to charge more.
