There are a range of services from the Home Office, with a bandwidth limit, to Bronze, Silver and Gold services all with unlimited* bandwidth allowance.
Our Broadband service can deliver up to 24Mbps but most people will not get near this. The normal maximum on a standard connection is about 8Mbps and even that it depends on the distance you are from your local BT exchange, the level of technology installed in that exchange, the quality of the line you are on and the number of people you are sharing with (and their activity) on that line. As a rule of thumb, based on a recent survey (Jul 09) 4Mbps is a reasonalble connection speed to achieve. Many providers make false claims as to what they deliver with the small print ensuring they are covered. At Truska we can deliver the same speeds as others, after all it is the BT exchange and line that governs the maximum speed, as other providers but our small print is bigger - you have just read it and it is near the top of the page and not hidden away.
To achieve top speeds you need all the conditions to be correct and your exchange needs to be using the latest fibre optic techology, very few have as yet, been upgraded to this level of service.
Realistically if you are not to far from your local exchage you should be achieving between 3 and 5+ Mbps.
Our "Unlimited Usage" is what it says it is but the fair usage policy does apply limits at your maximum speed to the Bronze and Silver packages. If you exceed these you will not be charged anything extra but your connection will be slowed down until the end of the monthly cycle. If you plan on large downloads we suggest you use a scheduler and run them overnight as bandwith during the hours of 11pm to 9am does NOT count towards your Fair Usage capacity.
